Import
2.37 lakh tonnes of pea import is expected in India from April to July, which was 9.32 lakh tonnes during the same period last year, i.e. pea import was 6.94 lakh tonnes less during this period. Due to the huge imports last year, the availability of peas at the port is still good. According to the information received, 3.37 lakh tonnes of pea stock is available at Mundra, Hazira and Kandla ports on September 1.
Pea production abroad
Figures are coming out that pea production in Canada will reach 35 lakh tonnes during 2025 and a record 50 lakh tonnes in Russia, which clearly indicates that the availability of peas abroad will be good. China has imposed a heavy import duty on Canadian peas, forcing Canada to export to India at lower prices.
Future
Increased availability abroad is indicating further fall in prices, which may impact Indian markets.
