Plan to Expand the Scope of Digital Crop Surveys

New Delhi: During the last Rabi season, the Central Government conducted digital surveys of crops across 31.30 crore plots (farms) in 4.41 lakh villages nationwide, and plans have now been made to expand this scope during the current Kharif season. Digital IDs have been generated for 10.15 crore farmers across 20 states to facilitate these digital surveys. The plan for the current Kharif season targets surveying up to 45 crore plots across 5.53 lakh villages.

According to official sources, the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) has enabled the collection of actual data regarding the acreage under various crops in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. This has made it possible to generate accurate production estimates. Encouraged by these results, the government is working to expand the survey's coverage.

Various schemes have been linked to the digital farmer ID, and the government will soon provide personalized advice to individual farmers regarding crop selection.

Additionally, farmers will receive information on scientific farming practices. While the scope of the DCS is being expanded, the data will also be verified using remote sensing-based estimates of crop acreage, aiding in the determination of ground-level facts.
