Production of Tuvar, Gram and Lentil expected to increase

New Delhi. The domestic production of the most important pulse crop of the Kharif season - Arhar (Tuvar) and both the major pulse crops of the Rabi season - gram and lentil is estimated to increase this time.

Although there has been some reduction in the sowing area of ​​​​gram and the area of ​​​​lentil could not increase, but the government has expressed the possibility of its average yield rate being high and has estimated an increase in its total production.

According to the second advance estimate released by the Union Agriculture Ministry, the domestic production of Tuvar may increase by 9 thousand tonnes from 34.20 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season to 35.10 lakh tonnes in the current season of 2024-25.

Similarly, the production of gram is expected to jump by 5 lakh tons from 110.40 lakh tons to 115.40 lakh tons and the production of lentil is expected to improve by 30 thousand tons from 17.90 lakh tons to 18.20 lakh tons.

Industry-trade analysts have expressed the possibility of production of Tuvar being more than the government estimate and the production of gram and lentil being less.

Although Tuvar is a Kharif crop, but due to its long maturity period, the preparation for harvesting of the crop starts in December-January.

Right now, its new stock is arriving in good quantity while the new stock of Rabi season pulses-gram has also started arriving. Soon, the arrival of lentil will also start in a big way.

Earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the production of tur was recorded at 33.10 lakh tonnes in the season 2022-23, 42.10 lakh tonnes in 2021-22 and 43.20 lakh tonnes in the season 2020-21.

Similarly, the domestic production of gram was estimated at 119.10 lakh tonnes in 2020-21, 135.40 lakh tonnes in 2021-22 and 122.70 lakh tonnes in 2022-23.

As far as lentils are concerned, its production was estimated to be 15.60 lakh tonnes in the Rabi season of 2022-23, 12.70 lakh tonnes in 2021-22 and 14.90 lakh tonnes in the season of 2020-21.
