The Rajasthan Agriculture Department has released the production estimate for various crops in the 2024-25 Rabi season. Here's a summary of the key points:

  1. Wheat: The wheat production is expected to remain almost the same as last year. The sowing area has increased slightly, from 30.77 lakh hectares to 31.45 lakh hectares. Production is anticipated to increase from 120.83 lakh tonnes to 122.35 lakh tonnes.

  2. Barley: Barley production is estimated to rise significantly. The sowing area has increased from 2.85 lakh hectares to 3.95 lakh hectares, with production expected to jump from 10.26 lakh tonnes to 14.35 lakh tonnes.

  3. Gram: The gram production is expected to see a significant increase, with a 20-25% rise predicted. The sowing area of gram has increased from 18.14 lakh hectares to 20.45 lakh hectares, and production is estimated to rise from 22.34 lakh tonnes to 25.35 lakh tonnes.

  4. Mustard: Mustard production is likely to decrease by about 5% compared to last year. The sowing area is expected to fall from 39.41 lakh hectares to 35.55 lakh hectares. This is significant as Rajasthan is the leading mustard producer in India, and mustard is a crucial oilseed crop for the Rabi season.

According to Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency in Jaipur, the decline in mustard production is linked to reduced sowing area, which is expected to negatively impact the output in the state for the upcoming season.

This season, weather conditions have been favorable for gram crops, leading to higher expected yields. Overall, while some crops like wheat and barley are showing growth in production, mustard may experience a decline due to reduced sowing areas.
