New Delhi. Farmers' enthusiasm and interest in wheat, mustard, and gram cultivation continues, leading to a significant increase in sowing. Farmers are also showing strong interest in barley, lentil, and pea cultivation.

As of November 21st, the total Rabi crop area was 12 percent higher than last year, and the wheat crop area was 19 percent higher. The gross Rabi crop area increased from 272.78 lakh hectares to 306.31 lakh hectares.

The average area under Rabi crops this year is estimated at 637.81 lakh hectares, of which 306.31 lakh hectares have already been sown. The total sown area is expected to reach 50 percent of this five-year average during the current week.

The vigorous sowing trend will continue in December and January. Early indications suggest that the area under major Rabi crops will surpass last year's average as well as the normal area, as favorable weather and soil moisture conditions are providing farmers with good sowing assistance.

Overall Rabi crop sowing is expected to improve, led by wheat and mustard. Although the open market price of wheat is not very attractive, its minimum support price will prove beneficial for farmers.

Mustard prices are already at a high level, and are unlikely to fall significantly until the new crop supplies begin in February-March 2026. As wheat production increases, government procurement may also increase.
