New Delhi. Due to the decrease in the production of raisins in the country during the current season, there is a rise in the prices of raisins and during the current month so far, prices have increased by Rs 35/40 per kg. But the fear of profit booking and selling at increased prices remains in the market. Due to which the prices may decrease a bit for the short term.
Production
For the last two years, the production of raisins in the country has been decreasing. According to the information received, the production of the year 2023 was 23/24 thousand carts, which decreased to 19/20 thousand carts in the year 2024. There is news of the production decreasing to 15/16 thousand carts during the current season 2025.
Record price
Due to weak production and low outstanding stock, as well as constant buying by stockists, the price of raisins in Sangli, Tasgaon Mandi of Maharashtra is currently being quoted at record levels. Today, about 100/125 carts arrived in Tasgaon and the price was quoted at Rs. 250/290. Traders say that earlier in the year 2014, the price of raisins had reached a record high of Rs. 250/280. Last year, during the same period, the price of raisins in the mandis was Rs. 170/190 per kg.
Stock
Informed sources say that along with low production, the stock of raisins in the mandis of Maharashtra is also considered to be low. Last year, the stock of raisins in the mandis was 2.5/3 thousand carts, which is currently being estimated to decrease to 500/700 carts.
Slow-fast
Informed sources say that due to record rise in prices, the producer can convert edible grapes into raisins. Apart from this, profit-booking selling may also increase in the market. Due to which prices may fall by 10/20 rupees for the short term. But in the year 2025, the price of raisins can once again cross the level of 300. Sources believe that the production of raisins was also low in Turkey this year. The new crop of raisins in Turkey comes in the month of September-October. This year the production of raisins in Turkey was around 2 lakh tonnes, whereas in the year 2023 the production was around 2.5/3 lakh tonnes.
Export
Traders believe that due to high prices, the export of raisins may be affected. According to the information received, in the year 2023-24, about 33 thousand tonnes of raisins were exported to Morocco, Russia, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka.
