Red Lentil Supply, Exports, Stock Vs. Indian Market
Australia
★ Last year, drought and frost severely damaged the crop. However, this year, the area sown is expected to match 2024 levels, but productivity may be higher.
★ Production is expected to reach 1.7 million tonnes, compared to 1.16 million tonnes last year. Exports may reach 1.5–1.6 million tonnes, nearly double the previous year.
★ Weather in July and August will be crucial for final output.

Canada
★ Red lentil production is estimated at 1.55 million tonnes this year, down from 1.73 million tonnes last year. Exports may also drop by 5% to 1.33 million tonnes.

Russia and Kazakhstan
★ Sowing area has increased. Total production from both countries is expected to reach 800,000 tonnes, of which 50% will be red lentils.

Turkey
★ Red lentil production is likely to be 340,000 tonnes, 16% lower than last year. Stocks are very limited. Imports may remain between 500,000–550,000 tonnes.

★ India’s commercial production in 2024–25 is likely to be around 1.5 million tonnes. Including imports, stock availability is about 1 million tonnes.
★ Despite the 10% import duty, prices have remained stable. Even with the arrival of the new crop, import demand may stay low.
