Relaxation in Wheat Quality Norms in Rajasthan

New Delhi: Acceding to a special request from the State Government, the Union Ministry of Food has decided to relax the quality standards for wheat procurement in Rajasthan. Under this provision, wheat containing up to 50 percent lusterless grains will be procured.
Additionally, the maximum permissible limit for shriveled and broken grains has been increased from 6 percent to 15 percent.
This move is expected to provide significant relief to farmers. However, the Ministry of Food has stipulated that the combined proportion of fully damaged and partially damaged grains within the total wheat lot must not exceed 6 percent.
It is noteworthy that, following damage inflicted upon the wheat crop—and particularly its quality—due to storms, rainfall, and hailstorms, the Rajasthan Government had sent a letter to the Ministry of Food on April 6, requesting a relaxation in the quality-related rules and conditions. The Ministry of Food's new regulation will be applicable to all wheat stocks in Rajasthan.
