New Delhi. Currently, the distribution of food grains under the Public Distribution System (PDS) follows a 1:4 ratio, providing 4 kg of rice for 1 kg of wheat.
For example, Antyodaya families receive 35 kg of grain per month, consisting of 7 kg of wheat and 28 kg of rice. Similarly, general category ration card holders receive 5 kg of grain per person per month, along with 1 kg of wheat and 4 kg of rice.
However, a change in the ratio has been made. Under this, two parts of wheat and three parts of rice will be distributed, in a 2:3 ratio.
Once implemented, Antyodaya families will receive 35 kg of grain, consisting of 14 kg of wheat and 21 kg of rice, while general category beneficiaries will receive 2 kg of wheat and 3 kg of rice. Under the National Food Security Act, all ration card holders are provided free grain.
Instructions have been issued to implement a new rationing ratio for food distribution in Bihar, and camps have also been set up in districts like Darbhanga and Madhubani to issue new ration cards.
The central government has sufficient stocks of both rice and wheat, so it has been decided to increase the quantity of wheat and reduce the quantity of rice in the PDS.
