Significant Increase in MSP for Milling and Ball Copra

New Delhi. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a significant increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milling copra and ball copra.

Under this decision, the MSP for milling copra for the 2026 season has been increased by ₹445 to ₹12,500 per quintal, and the support price for ball copra has been increased by ₹400 to ₹12,027 per quintal, compared to the 2025 season.

It is noteworthy that in the 2018-19 Union Budget, the government had announced that the Minimum Support Price for all approved crops would be fixed at 1.5 times the weighted average cost of production at the national level. This would ensure that producers receive a price 50 percent higher than their cost of production.

It is important to note that Kerala and Tamil Nadu are the top producing states of coconut and milling and ball copra, while commercial production of coconut also takes place in some other states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana.

Milling copra is primarily produced in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while ball copra is mainly produced in Karnataka.

The higher support price will ensure better returns for producers in these states, providing them with a good incentive to increase copra production. NAFED and NCCF purchase copra from producers when its market price falls below the MSP.
