The USDA this morning reported private export sales of 462,000 tons of soybeans to China. With this, total known sales to China in the current marketing year have reached 2.845 MMT.
CFTC’s Commitment of Traders data shows that during the week ending October 28, managed money added 83,160 contracts to its net long position, raising it to 118,489 contracts. This sharp increase was last seen around the time of the Trump–Xi meeting roughly a month ago.
Commercial traders increased their net short position by 96,154 contracts, taking it to 245,133 contracts—the largest since May 2022.
The USDA will release the backlog export sales report on Monday, with soybean bookings for the week ending November 6 estimated between 0.45–1.6 MMT.
Daily reporting has already confirmed sales of 132,000 tons to China and 117,000 tons to unknown destinations for that week.
Soymeal sales are estimated at 50,000–400,000 tons, while soyoil sales are expected in the range of 5,000–25,000 tons.
Analysts surveyed for Tuesday’s WASDE report expect U.S. soybean ending stocks at 306 million bushels, 16 million bushels higher than last month, if the estimate holds.
According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, 45% of Argentina’s soybean planting is complete, slightly behind last year’s pace.
