Weekly CFTC data from the Commitment of Traders report showed managed money added 17,733 contracts to their net long position as of April 21. This brought the net long position in soybean futures and options to 192,884 contracts by Tuesday. In soybean oil, the net long position reached a record 165,444 contracts.
According to the USDA’s weekly Export Sales report, total soybean export commitments stood at 38.52 MMT, which is 18% lower than the same period last year. This equals 92% of the USDA’s export forecast and is 4 percentage points below the 5-year average.
