Buenos Aires. The soybean harvest in the Latin American nation of Argentina is nearing completion, and the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange has estimated production at 50.1 million tonnes. This figure is 0.2 million tonnes (or 0.4 percent) lower than the projected total output of 50.5 million tonnes for the 2024-25 season.
Although this figure is 19 percent higher than the five-year average, it remains significantly below the record production level of 61.5 million tonnes achieved in the 2014-15 season.
It is noteworthy that soybean sowing in Argentina takes place in two phases. The first phase is known as *Soja Primera*; sowing occurs between mid-October and December, and the crop is harvested in April and May. Approximately 70 percent of Argentina's soybean production comes from this season.
The second season is called *Soja de Segunda*; sowing takes place in late December and early January—immediately following the wheat harvest—and the season extends from May through early July. Yield rates for this second crop tend to be lower. Argentina is the largest exporter of soybean oil to India, which sources the majority of its soybean oil imports from the country.
