New Delhi: According to the latest data released by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF), the apex body of cooperative sugar mills, domestic sugar production in the first quarter of the current marketing season, i.e., from October 1 to December 31, 2025,

About 90 percent of this production came from the three top producing states – Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. Last year, these states accounted for 86.74 percent of the production.

According to the Federation, although the number of operational sugar mills decreased from 500 last year to 499 this year, the significant increase in sugar production was due to an increase in sugarcane crushing from 1101.87 lakh tonnes to 1339.21 lakh tonnes and an improvement in the average sugar recovery rate from sugarcane from 8.68 percent to 8.83 percent.
