Sugar Production Expected to Reach 35 Million Tonnes in Upcoming Season: NFCSF
★ According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF), the closing sugar stock for the crushing season ending 30 September is expected to be 4.87 million tonnes.
★ For the 2024–25 season, as of 30 April, sugar production was reported at 28.61 million tonnes, out of which 3 million tonnes were diverted for ethanol production.
★ In the 2022–23 season, 4.3 million tonnes of sugar were used for ethanol, which was expected to yield 3.69 billion litres of ethanol, but actual production fell to 2.7 billion litres.
For 2024–25, ethanol production from sugar is expected to decline further to 2.5 billion litres, which is 28% of the total 9 million tonnes of targeted ethanol production.
★ For the 2024–25 season, ethanol production from grains is projected at 6.5 billion litres.
In comparison:
2023–24: 4.0223 billion litres
2022–23: 1.3712 billion litres
This shows a significant increase in ethanol production from grains over the past three years.
★ NFCSF has urged the government to increase the price of ethanol produced from sugarcane juice, sugar, and molasses.
