Sugar Sales Quota for August Likely at 2.35–2.40 Million Tonnes: Market Sources
★ The sugar sales quota for August is likely to be set at 2.35–2.40 million tonnes, higher than the 2.20 million tonnes set for July. This increase is expected due to strong festive demand ahead, market sources said. The government may announce the quota on Monday.
★ Since demand generally remains strong in August, the quota is expected to be around 2.35 million tonnes.
★ According to the All India Sugar Trade Association, sugar production for the 2024–25 (Oct–Sept) season is estimated to decline to 26.1–26.2 million tonnes, compared to 31.9 million tonnes last year.
★ The government has allowed exports of 1 million tonnes of sugar for the current season (until September), of which more than 600,000 tonnes have already been shipped.
★ Even if the sales quota is higher, prices are unlikely to fall due to strong demand in the market.
