New Delhi. In the last Kharif season, the national paddy production area jumped to an all-time high of 44.1 million hectares, which is expected to lead to a significant increase in yields.
The central agency, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and its affiliated state agencies are procuring large quantities of paddy from farmers in major producing states at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), providing them with good income.
In fact, the guaranteed purchase at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is encouraging farmers to increase paddy acreage and production.
Rice acreage is also increasing in the current Rabi season. According to official data, the Rabi paddy production area in the domestic sector increased to 910,000 hectares as of November 28th this year, an increase of 65,000 hectares from the 845,000 hectares during the same period last year.
This time, the five-year average area of paddy has been fixed at 42.93 lakh hectares, which is less than 10 percent of the Kharif production area of 441 lakh hectares. Paddy is cultivated in limited states during the Rabi season.
The Central Government has increased the minimum support price of paddy by Rs. 69 in comparison to the 2024-25 season and has fixed it at Rs. 2369 per quintal for the general category and Rs. 2389 per quintal for 'A' grade during the 2025-26 season.
