Surge in Almond Kernel Prices: No Likelihood of a Downturn

New Delhi. Driven by estimates of lower almond production in the US and Australia compared to last year, as well as the strengthening of the US dollar, almond kernel prices have recently witnessed a surge of ₹40–50 per kilogram. Market sentiment remains bullish, partly because almond imports also declined during the month of April.

Reduced Imports

Apart from weak demand in the spot market and rising prices in California, importers brought in lower quantities of almonds during April. According to available data, almond imports in April 2026 totaled 1,000 containers, whereas imports in the corresponding month of the previous year—April 2025—stood at 1,454 containers. Notably, import trade figures for the preceding months show 1,234 containers imported in January 2026, 1,310 in February, and 1,241 in March 2026.

Rising Prices

A significant upward trend has been recorded in almond kernel prices during the current month. According to reports, at the end of April, almond kernels were being quoted at ₹790–800 per kilogram in the Delhi market; this rate has now risen to ₹850–860 per kilogram. Market sources suggest that, in light of current export trends, prices are projected to soon hover around the ₹900 mark. During the same period last year, almond kernels were trading at ₹810–820 per kilogram in the Delhi market.
