Two major rules implemented to improve PDS in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow. In an effort to curb fraud and irregularities in the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced two key measures aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability. These changes are expected to prevent misuse of the system and address complaints of underweighing.
The first rule requires every ration dealer to maintain a gap of at least one minute between the distribution of ration to any two beneficiaries.
Ration will be distributed through electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) machines, and after serving one person, the dealer must wait for a minute or two before serving the next. According to official sources, this rule is similar to the process used in ATMs to prevent fraudulent activities.
It was observed that some dealers were exploiting the system by entering fake or duplicate names, using previously saved data, or even lifting ration without the beneficiary being physically present, by misusing old biometric records.
The goal of this rule is to ensure that ration is given only to the genuine beneficiary in real time. The time gap will make it harder to distribute ration under fake identities and will help authorities detect suspicious patterns in dealer behavior more easily.
The second measure focuses on ensuring that beneficiaries receive the correct quantity of ration. Officials emphasized that the government is committed to delivering food grains to genuine beneficiaries in full and on time, and strict action will be taken against dealers involved in fraudulent activities.
These steps are part of a broader effort by the Uttar Pradesh government to strengthen trust in the public distribution system.
