US-China Trade War Boosts Argentina’s Soybean Sector

Buenos Aires. The Latin American country of Argentina is benefiting significantly from the ongoing trade war between the US and China.
On one hand, the US has extended a $20 billion bailout package to Argentina, while on the other, China has instructed its millers and importers to refrain from purchasing US soybeans.
As a result, Chinese importers are now purchasing soybeans from Latin American countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.
Soybean exports from Argentina have begun to grow rapidly, and China is attempting to fill the US shortage in China. It is worth noting that China is the world's largest importer of soybeans.
China's indifference and the Trump administration's failures have not only frustrated and disappointed US soybean producers but also deeply angered them.
The Trump administration itself is internally divided. Some officials say a tougher stance should be taken against China, while others are suggesting conciliation.
The suspension of US soybean imports into China is a significant event, as the US has traditionally been the largest exporter of soybeans to China.
Chinese importers had stopped purchasing soybeans from the US since May 2025. New arrivals of this most important oilseed crop began in the US in September 2025.
Stocks are now steadily increasing. However, farmers are facing significant difficulties in selling their produce. This has led to a softening of prices.
Argentine producers and exporters are taking advantage of this. On September 22nd, when the Argentine government suspended export duties on soybeans, China purchased large quantities of soybeans.
