New Delhi. The Union Commerce and Industry Minister has stated that if the US feels that India's offer during trade negotiations is adequate and that it is fully satisfied with it, it should sign the bilateral trade agreement as soon as possible.
India's offer is the best compared to the concessions offered by other countries to the US, yet the US is still delaying signing the agreement.
In fact, a US Trade Representative told a Senate committee that he was pleased with India's substantial acquiescence to US pressure.
Responding to this, the Indian Commerce Minister stated that if the US is satisfied with the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), it should sign it as soon as possible so that it can be implemented.
The US Trade Representative stated that the offer being discussed with India is the best compared to other countries and that India appears to be an attractive and profitable alternative market for US agricultural products.
Although the Indian Commerce Minister refused to disclose the offer made to the US, he did say that five rounds of negotiations have already taken place with the US on a trade agreement. He stated that the current visit of the US Deputy Trade Representative to India is not for bilateral discussions.
Bilateral negotiations are progressing regularly, and important discussions have already taken place during several rounds of talks.
The current visit of the US Deputy Trade Representative to India has nothing to do with bilateral negotiations.
The US believes that India has made the best offer, but it is still reluctant to sign the trade agreement, raising doubts about its intentions. The Indian side hopes that the environment will soon become conducive for signing the agreement.
