Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country, aims to increase high-quality rice production to ensure sustainable rice exports in the future, ensuring no disruptions to its supply chain.

It is noteworthy that a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 10th focused specifically on a sustainable rice export strategy.

The Department of Import and Export, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, assessed the challenges and opportunities facing Vietnamese rice exports by 2026.

The Director General of the Department of Import and Export stated that the rice export sector is facing various difficulties and problems.

There is significant instability in various parts of the world. Inflation remains high, while global trade has slowed.

Many importing countries are also facing monetary crises. Concerns remain about the recovery of investment in Vietnam itself. The financial situation of developing countries is weakening, increasing pressure on the rice trade.

Customs data shows that during the first eleven months of the current year, January-November 2025, Vietnam exported over 7.53 million tons of rice worth over $3.85 billion, with an average unit export offer price slightly higher than $511 per ton.

Compared to 2024, Vietnamese rice export volumes declined by approximately 11 percent and export earnings by 27.4 percent in 2025.

Consequently, Vietnamese rice exports to Indonesia declined by 96 percent and Malaysia by 32.5 percent. However, exports to China, Bangladesh, and some African countries increased.
