The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about adverse weather conditions across various parts of the country.
These include the likelihood of heavy rainfall and cold waves, along with the possibility of a low-pressure area forming in the South Andaman Sea and South-Eastern Bay of Bengal.
This system is expected to intensify and move toward the Tamil Nadu coast in the next two days, bringing more rainfall to the southern states, especially Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In addition, a cyclonic circulation along with a western disturbance is affecting parts of Pakistan and Jammu, which is expected to lead to a drop in temperatures in the northern and western regions of India.
This could also result in a cold wave, particularly impacting the Rabi crops. The cold wave is expected to bring dense fog and temperatures may fall between 4°C to 8°C in the affected areas.
Rainfall and thundershowers are likely in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu on December 17, and in Kerala on December 18.
The northern and western parts of the country will experience colder weather with the potential for fog, and temperatures in these regions may drop to between 4°C and 8°C, while other regions may see temperatures between 8°C and 14°C.
