Chickpea market shows strength, prices supported by buying activity

New Delhi. Chickpea prices remained firm during the current week due to reduced selling pressure at lower levels and increased buying activity. Continued demand from pulse millers and stockists is supporting the rising prices. Arrivals of chickpeas in producing markets remain relatively limited. In several major producing regions, farmers are observed to be holding back their stock, anticipating higher prices. On the other hand, the availability of imported chickpeas at ports also remains limited. Due to high import costs and logistical challenges, the pressure from cheaper imports in the market appears to be low for now. This is providing additional support to domestic chickpea prices. Regular demand from pulse mills and stockists continues. Especially considering the festive season and upcoming demand, pulse millers are prioritizing purchases at lower levels to meet their requirements. This has strengthened the buying sentiment in the market. Due to increased buying by pulse millers, Delhi chickpea prices saw an increase of Rs. 50 per quintal this week, and with this increase, the prices at the end of the week were Rs. 5850/5875 per quintal for Madhya Pradesh line and Rs. 5925/5950 per quintal for Rajasthan line.
