Desi lentil prices rise due to weak selling and increased buying
The prices of desi lentils have risen this week due to weak selling at lower prices and increased buying. Despite steady imports from Canada and Australia, the import volume is lower compared to the same period last year, which saw a record amount of lentil arrivals. The availability of last year's imported lentils still persists, and the government holds sufficient stocks. Additionally, lentil sowing in India continues, with the area expected to be on par with last year.
In Australia, rain did not significantly damage the lentil crop, as most of it had already been harvested. Australian exporters have sold lentils at reduced prices, leading to a decline in the C&F price of Australian lentils by $10 per ton, now at $705 per ton.
