New Delhi. Due to normal arrivals in wholesale markets and good buying by millers and traders, mustard prices rose by Rs 100 to Rs 300 per quintal during the week of 24-30 May and its price increased in almost all major markets and reached above the minimum support price of Rs 5950 per quintal fixed by the government. Due to this, very little mustard is arriving at government purchase centers. In recent days, the price of mustard oil has risen and its cake (rape seed extraction) is doing well.

During the period under review, the price of 42 percent condition mustard increased by Rs 75 each in Delhi and Jaipur to Rs 6575 per quintal and Rs 6700/6725 per quintal respectively. Similarly, the price of mustard of normal average quality increased by Rs. 75 in Deesa Mandi of Gujarat, Rs. 155 in Dhanera, Rs. 150 in Barwala Mandi of Haryana, Rs. 300 in Hisar and Rs. 100 per quintal in Sirsa Mandi.

In Madhya Pradesh too, the price of mustard increased by Rs. 50 to Rs. 225 per quintal in the Mandis of Morena, Porsa and Gwalior. The price of mustard remained stable at the previous level of Rs. 6650 per quintal in Hapur Mandi of Uttar Pradesh, while it improved by Rs. 50 in Agra Mandi and reached a high of Rs. 7050/7300 per quintal.

The markets of the most prominent producing state- Rajasthan also remained strong. In Bikaner, the price of mustard rose by Rs 310 to Rs 5700/6290 per quintal and in Kota it rose by Rs 120 to Rs 5900/6370 per quintal. Rise was also seen in Bharatpur and Ganganagar.

Chinese importers are showing good interest in buying mustard cake (rapeseed extraction) due to which there is an environment of improvement in its prices.
