Mustard prices fall by ₹50-₹100 due to reduced buying by millers.
New Delhi. Mustard prices fell by ₹50-₹100 per quintal during the week of September 20-26 due to weakening demand from crushers and processors amid high rainfall, and normal arrivals in the markets of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
42% Condition Mustard
The price of 42% condition mustard fell by ₹50 to ₹7,050 per quintal in Delhi and ₹25 to ₹7,275 per quintal in Jaipur.
Sowing
The sowing time for mustard, the most important oilseed crop of the Rabi season, is very near. Last year, due to soft prices, the acreage under cultivation declined slightly, but this time, due to higher prices, the acreage under cultivation is expected to increase.
Prices
Despite this general softening, mustard prices are trading above the minimum support price (MSP) of ₹5,950 per quintal in all major markets, while the MSP for the next crop is yet to be announced. During the week under review, mustard prices remained subdued in almost all major markets in Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. In Barwala, Hisar, Gwalior, Kota, and Bikaner, mustard prices fell by ₹100 per quintal, while other markets saw declines of ₹25 to ₹75 per quintal.
Mustard Oil
As a result, mustard oil prices also declined by ₹1 to ₹3 per kg. Expeller prices fell by ₹25 to ₹1,490 per 10 kg in Delhi, ₹30 to ₹1,490 per 10 kg in Morena, and ₹30 to ₹1,480 per 10 kg in Alwar.
Crude Oil
Similarly, crude mustard oil prices also declined by 10-20 rupees per 10 kg. In Morena, it fell by 30 rupees to 1500 rupees, in Jaipur by 25 rupees to 1495 rupees, and in Kota by 20 rupees to 1560 rupees per 10 kg. However, crude mustard oil in Bharatpur improved by 10 rupees to 1540 rupees per 10 kg.
Mustard Cake (DOC)
Due to softening mustard prices and weak trading, mustard cake prices declined by up to 70 rupees per quintal. In Delhi, it fell to 3051 rupees per quintal. Demand for mustard cake also remained weak in Charkhi Dadri, Morena, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Alwar.
