Paddy prices affected due to weak export performance of rice

New Delhi. The export of Basmati rice is being affected due to the ongoing fierce fighting between Iran and Israel, while the pace of export shipment of non-Basmati rice has slowed down due to the presence of a large stock of previously imported goods in Africa.
Export
The free on board average unit export offer price of Basmati rice has also declined by more than 10 percent in recent months, while it may fall by 10-15 percent in the coming time. About 14 percent of Basmati rice from India is exported to Iran alone. In 2018-19, this figure had reached 25 percent. If Iran's war with Israel is prolonged, India may suffer losses.
Delhi
During the week of June 14-20, the price of 1509 hand paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi fell by Rs 149 to Rs 2851 per quintal, while the price of other varieties remained stable.
Arrival
Daily arrival of paddy declined to 3000/4000 bags. Millers and processors were not very active in its purchase. Rajim Mandi also remained weak where 5-6 thousand bags of paddy arrived daily. 7-8 thousand bags of paddy arrived in Bhatpara. In most of the mandis, the arrival of paddy is either negligible or non-existent.
Uttar Pradesh
In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, 1000/2000 bags of paddy were supplied daily, while due to lack of purchase, the prices remained soft by Rs 50/100. Very less goods are coming to Aligarh. General category paddy has already been stopped and hence only 'A' grade or Basmati variety of paddy is being supplied. In the beginning of the week, 5-7 thousand bags of paddy were imported in Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan, which got reduced to 1000 bags at the end of the week. The price there also remained soft by Rs 100.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, due to the decrease in the activity of exporters in Amritsar, Punjab, the price of different varieties of Basmati rice has registered a huge drop of Rs 100 to Rs 350 per quintal.
Uttarakhand
In the Nagar Mandi of Uttarakhand, the price of rice remained stable in most varieties. There was a huge drop of Rs 300 per quintal in the price of 1121 steam, Sugandha steam and Sharbati Sela and a huge drop of Rs 400 per quintal in the price of 1509 steam and Sharbati steam rice.
Rajasthan
Rice prices in Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan also softened by 50-100 rupees, while in Karnal, Haryana, PR 14 Sela and PR 14 Steam rice prices fell by 200 rupees each to 4000 rupees and 4200 rupees per quintal respectively. In Delhi's Naya Bazar, prices of almost all varieties and categories of rice have fallen by 100 to 400 rupees per quintal.
