Peanut prices improve due to low arrivals and strong demand
New Delhi. There was limited arrival of peanuts in the markets of top producing states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh during the week from March 29 to April 4, while the demand of buyers remained somewhat strong. As a result, the price of peanuts increased by Rs 100 to Rs 6800 per quintal in Solapur, jumped by Rs 300 to Rs 4500/5000 per quintal in Mahoba and improved by Rs 100 to Rs 4500/4700 per quintal in Mauranipur. In Jhansi also, its price increased by Rs 300 at the lower level.
Arrivals
10,000 bags of peanuts arrived in Rajkot, Gujarat on April 4. Prices remained stable with limited trading in Gondal. Jhansi received a daily supply of 4500-5500 bags whereas Mahoba received 2-4 thousand bags and Mauranipur received 1000-2000 bags.
Groundnut Seeds
Demand from crushers-processors and exporters for shelled groundnut seeds remained weak due to which the price of 60/70 count goods fell by Rs 200 to Rs 7500 per quintal in Jaipur. However, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, it increased by Rs 100 to Rs 10600 per quintal.
Groundnut Oil
There was not much demand for groundnut oil in loose form due to which its price remained stable in Gujarat. Its price fluctuated by Rs 10-20 per 10 kg in Rajasthan and South India. In Kota, the price of branded groundnut oil increased by Rs 65 per tin (15 kg) due to good purchases but the price of filtered oil softened a bit.
Price
The government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of peanuts by 6.40 percent to Rs 6783 per quintal for the 2024-25 season. At this price level, a record amount of peanuts was purchased by the government from the farmers, but still the wholesale market price could not rise. Till now, Kharif season peanuts were arriving, while now the supply of Rabi crop is about to start. Zaid season peanuts will also start arriving in the coming months.
