Peanut prices soften in Uttar Pradesh due to sluggish business
New Delhi. Peanut business remained sluggish during the week of 24-30 May. In Rajkot, Gujarat, its price remained stable at Rs 5000/6000 per quintal with daily arrival of 5000/8000 bags.
Rajasthan
No rise or fall in its prices was seen in Bikaner, Rajasthan and Solapur, Maharashtra. There its price was recorded at Rs 5200 per quintal and Rs 6500 per quintal respectively. But in Mahoba and Mauranipur of Uttar Pradesh, the price of peanuts fell by Rs 150 and Rs 355 to Rs 4800/5100 per quintal and Rs 4600/4850 per quintal respectively.
Jhansi
The price remained stable at Rs 4700/5000 per quintal in Jhansi. During the week under review, average daily arrival of groundnut was 1000/1100 bags in Jhansi, 1250/1750 bags in Mahoba and 1000/1500 bags in Mauranipur. Business was sluggish in all the markets.
Groundnut seeds
Due to less than normal business in shelled groundnut seeds and weak demand from millers and exporters, prices remained stable, but the price of 60/70 count seeds in Nagpur improved by Rs 200 to Rs 9500 per quintal.
Groundnut oil
Due to weak demand of groundnut oil in loose form, prices fell by Rs 25 each to Rs 1350 per 10 kg in all the four major centers of Gujarat - Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh and Jamnagar and the price of 15 kg teliya tin in Rajkot fell by Rs 50 to Rs 2150. In other centres also, the price of groundnut oil fell by 10-20 rupees per 10 kg. In Kota, Rajasthan, the price of branded groundnut oil fell by 50 rupees to 2350 rupees per tin, which indicates its weak demand.
Groundnut oil cake
However, no change was seen in the prices in Jaipur and Newai due to normalization of filtered oil business. But due to decrease in demand of groundnut oil cake in Bikaner, the price fell by 4000 rupees to 23000/28000 rupees per ton. Now the sowing of Kharif season groundnut is about to start in the major producing states.
