Last week's rise in peanuts disappeared due to weak demand
New Delhi. Last week, there was a good rise in the price of peanuts, especially in the markets of Uttar Pradesh, but due to weak business demand, not only did this rise disappear but the prices also fell.
Jhansi / Mahoba / Mauranipur
During the week of 21-27 June, the price of peanuts remained stable at Rs 4400/4900 per quintal in Jhansi, but fell by Rs 100 to Rs 4700/5100 per quintal in Mahoba and by Rs 300 to Rs 4500/4800 per quintal in Mauranipur.
Rajasthan
In Jodhpur, Rajasthan also, the price fell by Rs 200 to Rs 6500/6600 per quintal, while it remained stable at Rs 5250 in Bikaner and Rs 6000/7500 per quintal in Rajkot, Gujarat.
Arrival
Daily arrival of peanuts in Rajkot was recorded to be 3000 to 6000 bags, 1000-3000 bags in Jhansi, 1100-1350 bags in Mahoba and 1650-1750 bags in Mauranipur.
Peanut seeds
Despite lower than normal business in peeled peanut seeds, prices remained stable. In Bikaner, the price of 40/50 count was recorded at Rs 8500 per quintal, 50/60 count at Rs 8300 and 60/70 count at Rs 8100 per quintal. The price was more or less the same in Jodhpur. In Nagpur, Maharashtra, the price of 50/60 count remained at the old level of Rs 10100 per quintal and the price of 60/70 count remained at Rs 9500 per quintal.
Procurement
The central government has approved the procurement of 50,750 tonnes of summer groundnut from farmers in Uttar Pradesh at the minimum support price (MSP), but the market has not been much affected by this.
Groundnut oil (branded)
Due to reduced trading of groundnut oil in loose form, the price fell by Rs 25 to Rs 1350 per 10 kg in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh and Jamnagar in Gujarat. The price of teliya tin (15 kg) in Rajkot fell by Rs 40 to Rs 2165. In Kota, branded groundnut oil remained stable at Rs 2350 and the price of filtered groundnut oil softened by Rs 65 for a Jaipur brand.
