Soybean prices soften in Maharashtra despite government procurement
New Delhi. Although the central government has approved the purchase of 18,50,700 tonnes of soybean in Maharashtra this time at the minimum support price (MSP) of ₹5328 per quintal, and procurement began there in mid-November, wholesale and plant delivery prices are still well below the MSP.
Rajasthan
Government procurement of soybean has been permitted in Rajasthan, while a price difference payment scheme has been implemented in Madhya Pradesh. During the week of November 22-28, the plant delivery price of soybean declined by ₹50-100 per quintal in these three top producing states.
Madhya Pradesh
The price was recorded at ₹4400-4500 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh, ₹4700-4800 in Maharashtra, and ₹4500 per quintal in Rajasthan, well below the government support price.
Soybean Oil (Refined)
However, the price of refined soybean oil remained largely stable or fluctuated slightly by ₹5-10 per 10 kg. Normal trading and positive news from abroad did not significantly soften soybean oil prices. Its price was recorded at ₹1270 in Kota, ₹1240 in Mumbai and Haldia, and ₹1235 per 10 kg in Kandla.
Arrivals
Arrivals of soybean in important markets of major producing states were recorded at 7.90 lakh bags on November 24, 7 lakh bags on November 25, 7 lakh bags on November 26, and 7.50 lakh bags on November 28. Each soybean bag weighs 100 kg (1 quintal).
Soybean Meal (DOC)
Soybean DOC prices remained relatively stable in Madhya Pradesh due to light trading, but in Maharashtra, prices fell by up to ₹500 per tonne in some places. Prices in Rajasthan remained relatively unchanged.
Production
The Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated domestic soybean production to decline by about 1 million tonnes from 15.268 million tonnes in the 2024-25 season to 14.266 million tonnes in the current 2025-26 season, while soybean production is estimated to be slightly more than 10.5 million tonnes.
