Sugar prices not increased much due to weak demand
New Delhi. Due to weak industrial demand despite high temperatures, there was not much increase or decrease in the mill delivery price and spot market price of sugar during the week of 14-20 June.
Mill Delivery Price
The mill delivery price of sugar remained stable at Rs 3840/4065 per quintal in eastern Uttar Pradesh, but came down by Rs 15 in western Uttar Pradesh, Rs 50 in Punjab and Rs 20 per quintal in Bihar, while it rose by Rs 25 in Madhya Pradesh. In Gujarat, the mill delivery price of 'M' grade sugar increased by Rs 30 per quintal.

In Indore, the price improved by Rs 20 to Rs 4100/4200 per quintal, but in Mumbai (Vashi) market it remained stable at Rs 3970/4070 per quintal.
Kolkata
In Kolkata, the limited spot price improved by Rs 10-20 to Rs 4270/4360 per quintal. The Naka port delivery price of sugar remained at the old level of Rs 3920/4020 per quintal. The tender price of sugar in Maharashtra and Karnataka registered an improvement of Rs 10-20 per quintal. The export performance of sugar is not encouraging.
Production / Crushing
The main campaign of crushing of sugarcane and production of sugar for the current marketing season (October-September) of 2024-25 has ended, while its special session is going to be held in South Karnataka and Tamil Nadu during July-September in which 3.50-4.00 lakh tonnes of sugar can be produced. After that, the new crushing season of 2025-26 will formally start from October. If the area of sugarcane increases and there is good monsoon rain, then there will be a possibility of increase in sugar production in the next season.
Stock
At the end of the current marketing season i.e. on 30 September 2025, the industry may have an outstanding surplus stock of about 50 lakh tonnes of sugar, which will be sufficient to meet the domestic demand and need of October-November. By then new production will also start.
