Sugar prices soften due to pressure of new quota and weak demand
New Delhi. The Central Government has issued a free sale quota of 23.50 lakh tonnes of sugar for the month of September, while its demand is being seen to be weak in the domestic sector due to certain reasons. Due to this, an atmosphere of softening was seen in the prices of sugar during the week from 30 August to 5 September. Under this, the mill delivery price and spot market price declined.
Mill Delivery Price
During the week under review, the mill delivery price of sugar improved by Rs 10 in eastern Uttar Pradesh, but there was a softening of Rs 10 in western Uttar Pradesh, Rs 35 in Bihar and Rs 40 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh. Prices remained stable at the previous level in Punjab. There was a decline of Rs 10-20 in Gujarat. Sugar mills had to increase the sale of their previous quota goods, which affected the prices.
Spot Price
But a mixed trend was seen in the spot market. Sugar price in Delhi fell by Rs 30 to Rs 4260/4300 per quintal and in Mumbai (Vashi) it fell by Rs 20 to Rs 3980/4180 per quintal, while in Indore it increased by Rs 30 to Rs 4220/4320 per quintal and in Raipur (Chhattisgarh) it jumped by Rs 40-45 to Rs 4260/4325 per quintal.
Kolkata
Sugar price in Kolkata was recorded at Rs 4380/4420 per quintal. Naka Port Delivery price of sugar got stuck at Rs 3930/4130 per quintal with a fall of Rs 20.
Tender
Tender price of sugar fell to Rs 3860/3945 per quintal in Maharashtra but improved to Rs 3895/4020 per quintal in Karnataka.
Monsoon
According to industry analysts, industrial consumption of sugar has decreased due to heavy monsoon rains in various states of the country and the fall in temperature, but due to the festival of Ganesh Puja, demand and price remained strong in some areas. Now Pitra Paksha is starting which will last till 21st September and after that Navratri festival will start from 22nd September. Due to this, demand and consumption of sugar is expected to increase, which may give some strength to the prices. But a huge quota of 23.50 lakh tonnes will also be present. In view of this, the price of sugar may remain stable within a certain limit with limited fluctuations.
