Good Supply and Limited Demand Lower Wheat Prices
New Delhi. Wheat production is expected to improve due to continued robust sowing and favorable weather conditions. Wholesale markets are seeing good arrivals, and millers and processors are also receiving wheat from government stocks. Storage limits on wheat have not yet been imposed. With buyers having options, they are not faced with the need for rushing or rushing to obtain the wheat they need. Wheat supply and availability are expected to remain relatively stable in the coming days.
Delhi
During the week of November 22-28, wheat prices fell by ₹10 in Delhi to ₹2755/₹2790 per quintal. Similarly, prices fell by ₹20 in Dabra, Madhya Pradesh, and ₹50 in Ujjain, while prices remained stable at previous levels in other markets across the state, including Indore and Dewas, and in Rajkot, Gujarat.
Rajasthan
However, wheat prices in Rajasthan saw some improvement. During the week under review, wheat prices increased by ₹45 to ₹2450/2560 per quintal in the Kota market and by ₹25 to ₹2425/2550 per quintal in the Bundi market. The government's minimum reserve price for wheat is set at ₹2550 per quintal, compared to which wholesale market prices are trading lower. This is why millers and processors are showing little interest in purchasing wheat from the Food Corporation of India.
Uttar Pradesh
Wheat prices in Uttar Pradesh markets remained lower by ₹10-20 per quintal, while in Maharashtra's Jalna market, prices remained stable at ₹2500/2650. Daily wheat arrivals in Delhi declined to 4,000-5,000 bags, yet prices remained subdued due to weak demand. Wheat is being sown well in major producing states, and acreage is well ahead of last year.
