Wheat prices weaken in Delhi, Rajkot, and Uttar Pradesh amid limited trading
New Delhi. Wheat prices witnessed a mixed trend during the week of November 29-December 5 due to normal supply and limited trading. Prices remained weak in several markets in Delhi, Rajkot, and Uttar Pradesh, while prices remained firm or stable in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Wheat is being sown vigorously in all major producing states, and acreage is significantly ahead of last year. It appears that national wheat acreage and production could increase to new record levels during the 2025-26 season, as weather conditions remain favorable.
Delhi / UP
During the week under review, wheat prices softened by ₹10 to ₹2750/2770 in Delhi and ₹100 to ₹2500/3000 per quintal in Rajkot. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, wheat prices fell by ₹10 per quintal in Gorakhpur, ₹30 in Etah, and ₹40 in Mainpuri.
Madhya Pradesh
On the other hand, wheat prices increased by ₹15 in Dabra, Madhya Pradesh, ₹75 per quintal in Itarsi, and ₹55 per quintal in Kota, Rajasthan, while prices remained stable at previous levels in other markets. Delhi received 5,000-6,000 bags of wheat daily.
Stock Limits
Stock limits are in place on wheat, so supply conditions in markets remain normal. Millers and processors have also started receiving government wheat. Anticipating a bumper harvest in the coming days, major producers are regularly offloading their stocks to markets, preventing millers and processors from feeling the need to rush or rush their purchases.
Government Sales
The government has allocated a quota of 3 million tonnes of wheat for sale under the Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) until March 31, 2026, but millers are showing little interest in purchasing it due to specific reasons.
Fall in Prices
The price of wheat in many markets has fallen to around the government support price. The minimum support price (MSP) for wheat has been increased by ₹160 from ₹2,425 per quintal for the 2024-25 season to ₹2,585 per quintal for the 2025-26 season.
