Wheat Futures Fall on Strong Supply Forecast

New Delhi. The wholesale market price of wheat, the most important food grain of the Rabi season, has remained stable or shown a downward trend for some time now. Prices are experiencing limited fluctuations due to a better balance between demand and supply.
There is a good supply of wheat in the mandis (wholesale markets), and millers and processors also have sufficient stocks.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has high levels of wheat stock in its warehouses and is also ready to sell it. In fact, a long-standing stock limit order on wheat is in effect, forcing traders/stockists to regularly release their stock into the wholesale markets.
In most mandis, the price of average quality wheat has fallen to around the Minimum Support Price (MSP), causing losses to those traders who had purchased it from farmers at higher prices,
hoping to profit during the off-season when supplies are typically lower. The government has once again increased the MSP for wheat by Rs. 160, from Rs. 2425 per quintal to Rs. 2585 per quintal.
Wheat sowing is progressing well, and the area under cultivation has exceeded 300 lakh hectares. Weather conditions are normal, and the crop condition is satisfactory.
The sowing process has reached its final stage. Harvesting of the new crop will begin in March-April. Wheat prices are not expected to rise significantly in the near future.
