Weekly Export Sales data released this morning showed wheat bookings of 397,245 MT for the week ending March 19. This was more than double the previous week and nearly four times the same week last year. The Philippines was the top buyer with 69,700 MT, followed by Taiwan with 67,800 MT and Mexico with 63,700 MT.
New crop sales were reported at 205,750 MT, slightly lower than the previous week. South Korea was the top buyer with 81,000 MT, while the Philippines purchased 56,000 MT.
The March Intentions report will be released on Tuesday, with traders expecting wheat planted area to reach 44.79 million acres this year, which would be down 544,000 acres compared to last year.
European Commission data estimates EU wheat ending stocks at 11 MMT for 2026/27, which would be down 14.7 MMT from last year. Production is also expected to decline by 8.3 MMT to 125.9 MMT.
Algeria purchased an estimated 690,000 MT of wheat in a tender on Thursday.
