New Delhi: Official data shows that total government procurement of wheat for the Central Pool has risen to 357.6 lakh tonnes as of June 21, 2026, during the current year. This is 2.20 lakh tonnes higher than the revised procurement target of 355.40 lakh tonnes, and about 58.10 lakh tonnes (nearly 19%) more than the 299.50 lakh tonnes procured during the same period last year.

In Rajasthan, wheat procurement has reached a new record level, while in Uttar Pradesh it has more than doubled compared to last year.

Notably, the Union Food Ministry had initially set a procurement target of 303 lakh tonnes for the current Rabi marketing season, which was later revised upward to 355.40 lakh tonnes in the last week of April. Actual procurement has now exceeded even this revised target.

During the 2025 Rabi marketing season, around 302 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured for the Central Pool. The Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated that domestic wheat production this year has increased to an all-time high of 1206.60 lakh tonnes. A significant portion of the procurement this year has come from the URS (Under Relaxed Specifications) category of wheat.
