11.80 lakh tonnes of pulses exported from Myanmar in the first seven months

Yangon. Exports of three major pulses - urad, moong and tuvar - continue from India's northeastern neighbouring country Myanmar. In the first seven months of the current year,

during January-July 2024, a total of about 11.80 lakh tonnes of pulses were exported from Myanmar, which included shipment of 5.32 lakh tonnes of urad, 4.46 lakh tonnes of moong and 2.02 lakh tonnes of tuvar.

According to the available data, during these first seven months, urad was the highest export of 5.32 lakh tonnes in the pulses category from Myanmar.

Its shipment quantity was 74 thousand tonnes in January, 52 thousand tonnes in February, 80 thousand tonnes in March,

about 88 thousand tonnes in April, 1.03 lakh tonnes in May, 65 thousand tonnes in June and 72 thousand tonnes in July. The average monthly export of urad was 76 thousand tonnes and its maximum shipment was made to India.

As far as Tuvar is concerned, its total export from Myanmar during January-July 2024 was a little more than 2.02 lakh tonnes.

This included shipments of 31 thousand tonnes in January, 33 thousand tonnes in February, 30 thousand tonnes in March, 28 thousand tonnes in April, 41 thousand tonnes in May, 27 thousand tonnes in June and 13 thousand tonnes in July.

Thus, the average monthly export of Tuvar from Myanmar was 29 thousand tonnes and almost its entire quantity was shipped to India.

A total of about 4.46 lakh tonnes of moong was exported from Myanmar in the first seven months of the current year.

This included shipments of 34 thousand tonnes in January 2024, 64 thousand tonnes in February, 95 thousand tonnes in March, 71 thousand tonnes in April, 65 thousand tonnes in May, 59 thousand tonnes in June and 57 thousand tonnes in July.

The average monthly export of moong was around 64 thousand tonnes. There is a ban on the import of moong in India for the last about two and a half years. Moong is exported from Myanmar mainly to China, Thailand and European countries.
