Santiago. Walnut exports from the South American nation of Chile have fallen by approximately 14 percent this year compared to last year. Although India remains the largest buyer—with shipments to the country seeing a significant 20 percent increase—export performance in several other markets has been weak.
According to a report by the trade organization Chilenut, walnut exports from Chile declined during the first half of the current marketing season, and producers are expected to face mounting challenges as the spring season approaches. Exports of shelled walnuts (walnut kernels) remained relatively stable.
Based on available data, walnut exports from Chile dropped by 14.3 percent—from 77,087 tonnes to 66,032 tonnes—by September 2026. During the period under review, shipments to India increased from 23,411 tonnes to 28,073 tonnes; to Morocco from 1,553 tonnes to 3,847 tonnes; to Russia from 413 tonnes to 1,270 tonnes; to Peru from 1,050 tonnes to 1,225 tonnes; and to Brazil from 292 tonnes to 618 tonnes.
Conversely, shipments to Turkey declined from 14,765 tonnes to 10,201 tonnes; to Italy from 9,845 tonnes to 9,486 tonnes; to Spain from 3,852 tonnes to 2,238 tonnes; to Germany from 3,473 tonnes to 1,894 tonnes; to Vietnam from 826 tonnes to 692 tonnes; and to other countries from 17,607 tonnes to 6,488 tonnes. Large-scale imports of walnuts into India continue.
