Vancouver. The Canadian Ministry of Agriculture has estimated the export of 1.90 lakh tonnes of Kabuli gram from the country during the 2024-25 season, which is slightly less than the possible export of 2 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season.
According to a report of the ministry, the sowing area of gram in Canada increased from 1.28 lakh hectares last year to 1.84 lakh hectares this time and its average yield rate is also expected to improve from 1.12 tonnes per hectare to 1.69 tonnes per hectare.
As a result, the total production of gram in the country is expected to jump from 1.42 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season to 3.05 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
According to the report, at the end of the current marketing season i.e. on 31 July 2024, there will be only 1 thousand tonnes of Kabuli gram outstanding stock in Canada, while with the production of 3.05 lakh tonnes and import of 45 thousand tonnes, its total availability will increase to 3.51 lakh tonnes.
Out of this, 1.90 lakh tonnes will be exported and 76 thousand tonnes will be used domestically and at the end of the marketing season, a surplus stock of 85 thousand tonnes will remain.
In the 2023-24 season, the total availability was 2.43 lakh tonnes, out of which 2 lakh tonnes were exported and 42 thousand tonnes were used domestically. The arrival of new crop can start there from next month.
