Hisar. Haryana's Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has revealed that out of all the claims made by farmers for getting subsidy for Dhaincha cultivation, 47 percent have been rejected as they were found to be false during physical verification.

Farmers had claimed to cultivate Dhaincha on 26,942 acres across the state, but inspections showed that cultivation had actually taken place on only 14,184 acres, with no Dhaincha sown on the remaining 12,788 acres.

The state government had announced financial assistance of Rs 2000 per acre to promote Dhaincha cultivation, which is known for improving soil fertility and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.

Typically, this green manure crop is ready in about two months. However, the data revealed that many farmers attempted to claim the subsidy without actually growing the crop.

Haryana had set a target of cultivating Dhaincha on 28,171 acres for the season. Though farmers claimed to have sown it on 26,942 acres, the Agriculture Department’s field and satellite-based inspections revealed a significant discrepancy. Only the genuine claims—covering 14,184 acres—were accepted, while the rest were rejected.

Mewat district had the highest number of false claims at 2537, followed by 2208 in Sonipat and 1510 in Jind. The verification process involved inspections in 1457 villages using 1181 field staff, out of a targeted 1550 villages.

Despite the government providing Dhaincha seeds to farmers at 80 percent subsidy, the scheme was not effectively utilized.
