New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Minister is unhappy with the difficulties faced by farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and yesterday called for a response from high-level officials to address the complaints.
Several farmers reported receiving claims of 1, 3, 5, or 21 rupees. Expressing his displeasure, the Agriculture Minister stated that this was a cruel joke on farmers and that it was essential to stop it.
Ordering a thorough investigation into these complaints, the Union Agriculture Minister directed senior officials and insurance companies to settle farmers' insurance claims as quickly and in a timely manner.
He emphasized that crop loss assessments should be accurate, and if necessary, discrepancies should be addressed through appropriate amendments to the scheme.
It is worth noting that many farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra complained that they had been paid negligible amounts under their crop insurance claims.
This greatly concerned and angered the Agriculture Minister. He called a meeting of senior officials and insurance companies in Delhi and asked them to take this matter seriously.
The Agriculture Minister stated that the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme is a protective shield for farmers against natural disasters, but certain errors are bringing the scheme into disrepute.
These errors must be rectified immediately. In Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, despite significant crop damage due to natural disasters, the losses were shown as zero on paper, and therefore, farmers were not paid their crop insurance claims.
The Agriculture Minister sternly stated that this cruel joke on the farming community must end. In Maharashtra's Akola district, cases of farmers receiving claims of Rs. 5 and Rs. 21 also surfaced, angering the Agriculture Minister.
