Visakhapatnam: A cyclonic storm that has formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is moving rapidly toward the Indian coastline.
This cyclone—which developed over the western and central parts of the Bay—is highly intense, severe, and dangerous; it is expected to reach the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha soon.
The system is likely to bring torrential rain accompanied by extremely high-velocity winds to both these states. Additionally, heavy rainfall is also forecast for Chhattisgarh.
While heavy rain is already occurring in the far southern regions of the country—including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karaikal—significant rainfall is now expected in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Odisha. Similarly, intense downpours are anticipated in parts of coastal and southern interior Karnataka, the Rayalaseema region, and Mahe.
Eastern states of the country may also be affected by the rainfall. The cyclonic storm is currently still over the sea but is expected to reach India’s eastern coastal region by October 27–28.
