Area of Rabi crops increased by 12.28 lakh acres in Telangana

Hyderabad. Compared to last year, the total area under Rabi crops in Telangana, a key agricultural state in South India, has increased by 12.28 lakh acres—from 67.70 lakh acres to 79.99 lakh acres this year, including the area under zaid crops.
According to data released by the state agriculture department, Rabi paddy cultivation saw a significant jump from 52.04 lakh acres to 59.86 lakh acres.
The sowing area of jowar increased from 2.38 lakh acres to 3.68 lakh acres, and maize from 6.70 lakh acres to 9.14 lakh acres. However, the area under wheat declined from 9,000 acres to 6,000 acres. As a result, the total area under food crops other than paddy rose from 9.21 lakh acres to 12.98 lakh acres.
The area under pulse crops also improved slightly from 3.04 lakh acres to 3.11 lakh acres. Within this category, tuvar (pigeon pea) increased from 4,000 acres to 10,000 acres, and urad (black gram) from 35,000 acres to 56,000 acres.
However, the area under gram declined from 2.39 lakh acres to 2.23 lakh acres, moong (green gram) from 17,000 acres to 13,000 acres, and kulthi (horse gram) from 8,000 acres to 7,000 acres.
Oilseed cultivation increased from 2.72 lakh acres to 3.16 lakh acres. Within this, groundnut acreage rose from 2.03 lakh acres to 2.51 lakh acres.
Meanwhile, sesame fell from 34,000 acres to 32,000 acres, sunflower from 22,000 acres to 21,000 acres, and safflower (kusum) from 9,000 acres to 7,000 acres.
Sugarcane cultivation also saw a notable increase, rising from 6,138 acres last year to 17,353 acres this year.
Telangana is known for being a leading producer of Rabi season paddy. Other major Rabi crops in the state include maize, sorghum, gram, urad, and groundnut.
Harvesting of the new paddy crop has already begun. Gram harvesting is nearly complete, while the arrival of new stocks of other crops continues in local markets.
