New Delhi: The Central Government has advised exporters to continue their export business with West Asia, assuring them that the government will provide every possible assistance and support to resolve any obstacles or difficulties encountered in the process. The government is already in contact with various countries across West Asia, the Middle East, and the Gulf region, and is also currently engaged in discussions with Iran. Concurrently, requests for assistance received under various schemes and the Export Promotion Mission are being processed on an expedited basis.

The government has also asked exporters to formulate new proposals for the construction of warehouses or other storage facilities for commercial goods in target countries—a key component of the Export Promotion Mission. Regarding marketing efforts, Export Promotion Councils have been requested to prepare a three-year rolling calendar of events, prioritizing small and medium-sized exporters while simultaneously organizing large-scale (mega) programs for buyer-seller meetings.

It is noteworthy that West Asia and the Gulf region constitute a significant market for the export of numerous Indian products; however, export performance in the region has weakened in recent months due to the conflict between Iran and the United States. Compared to the previous year, exports to the region have declined by 57.9 percent this year, falling to $2.50 billion.

On March 19, the government launched the 'Resilience and Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation' (RELIEF) scheme to empower exporters to tackle the challenges posed by high transportation and insurance costs, while simultaneously covering their credit risks. In this regard, several claims have been received from exporters, and payments for some of these claims have already been disbursed.
