Australia exports 15.9 million tonnes of lentils to India in December

Brisbane. Australia, a leading producer and exporter of lentils, is experiencing strong export performance of this important pulse during the current 2025-26 marketing season, driven by robust domestic production and strong global demand.

According to a report by the government agency, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), lentil exports from the country jumped sharply to nearly 41.1 million tonnes in December 2025, up from 18.4 million tonnes in November and 45,000 tonnes in October. Consequently, Australia's total exports during the October-December 2025 quarter amounted to approximately 64.0 million tonnes.

India remained the largest buyer of Australian lentils during this quarter, importing a total of 256,9470 tonnes. Under this, only 3140 tonnes of lentils were imported in October, which jumped to 97,263 tonnes in November and reached 1,59,067 tonnes in December.

After the arrival of new goods started, the price of lentils in Australia softened a bit, which encouraged Indian importers to increase their purchases. Lentil sowing was going on in India during November-December.

Besides this, in the quarter of October-December 2025, 2.16 lakh tonnes of lentils were exported from Australia to Bengal, 17 thousand tonnes to Nepal and 64 thousand tonnes to Pakistan.
