Australia exports 3.83 lakh tonnes of lentils in the April-June quarter

Melbourne. Export shipments of this important pulse from Australia, the world's second largest lentil exporting country after Canada, continue to be regular. According to the latest report of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS),
during the April-June quarter of the current year, a little more than 3.83 lakh tonnes of lentils were exported from the country, which included shipments of 1.13 lakh tonnes in April, 1.30 lakh tonnes in May and 1.41 lakh tonnes in June.
During the quarter under review, India ranked first and Bangladesh second in lentil imports from Australia. India imported a total of 1,40,772 tonnes of lentils from Australia in the entire quarter, including 23830 tonnes in April, 59,698 tonnes in May and 57,244 tonnes in June.
In comparison, imports in Bangladesh could reach only 1,24,437 tonnes. There, 40 thousand tonnes of lentils were imported from Australia in April, 39,467 tonnes in May and 44,920 tonnes in June.
Apart from this, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates (UAE) also exported 19 thousand tonnes to UAE, 42 thousand tonnes to Sri Lanka, 13 thousand tonnes to Pakistan,
11 thousand tonnes to Nepal and 31 thousand tonnes to Egypt from Australia during April-June 2024.
Many other countries also imported small quantities of lentils from Australia during this period, including Bahrain, Fiji, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mauritius, New Zealand, South Africa, Taiwan and Turkey etc.
Although Turkey imports a good quantity of lentils, it imports most of it from Canada. As far as India is concerned, a good quantity of lentils is being imported from Australia and Canada every month.
