Kolkata. The Indian Chamber of Commerce successfully organised the Bengal Rice Conclave 2024 in Kolkata on July 26, which included three panel discussions.
The topics covered in the discussion included best practices of agricultural management for production of high quality rice, seeds, crop protection, micro irrigation, climate issues and sustainable use of technology and post-harvest management.
The use of advanced and latest technology in rice mills, modern techniques of rice storage and ways of connecting with the market were also discussed in detail in this program. At the same time, views were also presented on the export possibilities.
Many other analysts and experts including ministers, officials, rice millers, merchant exporters and machine-tool manufacturers were present in this important and useful program.
An analyst said that rice has been used as a staple food in West Bengal for centuries. Bengal contributes around 14 percent to the total production of rice at the national level and is the leading producer state of the country.
In recent years, Bengal has also faced the risk of climate change, which sometimes leads to floods and sometimes to droughts.
Bengal produces some high-quality paddy rice, which is in great demand in the domestic and foreign markets.
Rice is sent from Bengal to many states of the country and is also exported abroad. Paddy is cultivated on a large scale in the state during Kharif and Zaid seasons.
